Privacy policy
Last updated 3 November 2026
Northlit is published by Botanic Rain FZE, Business Centre, Sharjah Publishing City Free Zone, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates ("we"). This policy explains what the app collects and why.
What we collect
- Account: your email address (or the private relay address Apple gives us) when you sign in, so your places and Pro follow you to a new phone.
- Saved places: the name and position of places you save, and their alert settings, so we can work out the aurora chance there and alert you.
- Your position: when you allow it, the app sends your approximate position to show tonight's chance where you are. We do not store it or track you in the background.
- Notifications: a device token so we can send alerts to your phone, and your app language.
- Subscription: whether you have Pro and until when. Payments are handled by Apple or Google; we never see card details.
- Diagnostics: crash reports and anonymous usage statistics, without advertising identifiers.
What we do not do
- No ads, no selling or renting of data, no advertising identifiers, no tracking across other apps or websites.
Who processes it
Only service providers that run the app for us: Google Cloud and Firebase (hosting, sign-in, notifications, crash reports, usage statistics), RevenueCat (subscription status), and Google Maps (map display and place search).
Aurora and weather data
Aurora, Kp and solar wind data come from NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center; cloud forecasts from NOAA's Global Forecast System. Both are US government public data.
How long we keep it
While you have an account. When you delete your account, everything linked to it is deleted straight away (see Delete your account). Anonymous diagnostics are kept for up to 90 days.
Your rights
You can see, change or delete your data in the app, or ask us by email. Northlit is not directed at children under 13.
